1/6/09 The Giddings baseball team has been ranked No. 6 in the state by 3abaseball.com. 3aBaseball.com is a relatively new website that has been covering 3A Texas baseball since 2007.
The Buffaloes were one of only two District 25-3A teams to receive a Pre-season Top 20 ranking by the website. Bellville was also listed and put in the No. 8 position.
Columbus was mentioned in the Top 40 but no actual ranking was given to teams 21-40, this group was listed in alphabetical order.
Cuero, Taylor and Longview Spring Hill were named as the site's pre-season Top 3. Taylor and Longview Spring Hill will play in Region 3 while Cuero, Giddings and Bellville will play in Region 4. Other ranked teams playing in Region 4 are Robstown and Sinton.
Teams are allowed to begin practice on Friday, January 30th. Scrimmages are allowed to begin on February 9th and the season will start on February 23rd.
Giddings will return seven starters from the 2008 season, they advanced to the Regional semi-finals last year.
It will be interesting to see how Giddings will fare in district competition and how far they can advance once the playoffs begin - after being placed in Region 4.
