A&M Kingsville Picks Up DE Spenser Duncan

2/12/08

Giddings defensive end Spenser Duncan will head south to play for Texas A&M Kingsville receiving a scholarship to join the Javelina's football program this Fall. Duncan who entertained six different offers made his final decision this weekend, in the end choosing A&M Kingsville over Tarleton, both schools had made scholarship offers to the Buffaloes' all-district standout. Spenser, son of Scott and Dr. Teri Kinsfather, was a three year letterman for the Buffaloes who brought havoc to opposing quarterbacks and helped  the Giddings make their way to the playoffs for the past three years. During his high school career he excelled at defensive end, tackle and at tight end. Spenser was named co-defensive MVP for 2007 (an honor he shared with teammate Alan Dock) and has been honored in the past as a two time 1st team all-district defense and 2nd team all-district offense selection. Spenser credits his coaches and fellow teammates for his success on and off the field. Bo Atterberry, head coach at A&M Kingsville, said "we are excited to get a good football player and are impressed with Spenser's relentless pursuit of the football. We appreciate the fact that we are getting an outstanding athlete and a quality young man". Duncan will study psychology and pharmaceuticals at Kingsville.

Fitzhenry Realizes Childhood Dream:Signs With UT  2/8/08

Giddings quarterback Brock Fitzhenry saw his childhood dream of playing football at the University of Texas come true on Wednesday, February 6th when he signed commitment papers and agreed to devote his college career to the Longhorns. Brock finished high school early, graduating in December, so that he could start classes at UT in January and attend spring practice with the Longhorns. Brock, who is the son of Buffs Coach Derek and Angele Fitzhenry, had an outstanding high school career with the Buffaloes leading them to back to back district championships in 2006 and 2007. He rushed for over 7000 career yards and helped guide Giddings deep into the playoffs the past three years, reaching the quarter finals in 2006. UT recruited Brock as an "athlete", they expect him to see playing time at wide receiver. The Longhorn coaches are excited about Brock's speed and his great hands.

Giddings All-State LB Signs With Tulsa

Flanked by his family, fellow players, coaches and local supporters Giddings standout linebacker Alan Dock signed to play football at Tulsa in Oklahoma. He tallied 539 tackles, 25 caused fumbles, 11 fumble recoveries, four pass break-ups and four interceptions during his career on defense alone. Alan, who is the son of Jeff and L'Anna Dock of Giddings will play this Fall for the Golden Hurricane on a full scholarship. UIL Re-Alignment: Giddings In 25-3A
Sealy and Columbus In, Navasota Out
Giddings
2/1/08 The University Interscholastic League announced its re-alignment today putting Giddings in District 25-3A along with Sealy and Columbus. The district will also include LaGrange, Bellville and Smithville. Navasota and Caldwell have been placed in District 24-3A and will play Madisonville, Cameron, Rockdale, Taylor and Bryan Rudder. Other notable adjustments include West Orange Stark being in District 21-3A (Region 3) so that Giddings could not meet them until the semi finals and Liberty Hill moving to District 8-3A (Region 1), said to be one of the toughest 3A districts. Liberty Hill will face Wimberley and Llano two tough teams who have developed standout programs. Liberty Hill will also face Burnet and Fredricksburg who moved down this year from 4A. Because of the recent growth in Hutto the Hippos were forced to be classified as a 4A team, where they will likely struggle. They were placed in District 25-4A where they will battle with 2007 State 4A Champion Lake Travis and other formidable Austin area schools.
Lexington
For Lexington the re-alignments means moving to District 25-2A which is reported by the Austin American Statesman to be a tough district made tougher with the addition of Lexington. The Eagles will face Academy, Florence, Jarrell, Lago Vista, Salado and Rogers. Rogers has given the Eagles post season trouble in the past.
