The awarding of this honor is made to individuals who follow the same precepts, ideals and standards that have been established for Masonic behavior. Harlan has been involved in the Giddings community for years beginning with the opening her Giddings restaurant "Harlan's" which she owned and operated, along with her husband Wade, for nine years. Commissioners
Court accepts Judge Gonzales' resignation, Appoints Justice of the
Peace Fischer to County Judge post2/26/09 The Lee County Commissioners Court met today and accepted the resignation, which was tendered on Monday, of Lee County Judge Evan Gonzales. Judge Gonzales has decided to vacate his post to accept a job with the Association of Counties in Austin. Judge Gonzales called the special meeting to order at 2:00 p.m. and the Commissioners went to work immediately, opening the floor to public comment. (Photo: Judge Gonzales presiding over his last Commissioners Court meeting) Kay Sweat, Lee County Democratic Party chair, asked that the Court be aware that the voters of Lee County had elected a Democrat to the position of County Judge during the last election. She asked that the Court keep this in
mind when making their appointment. Sweat suggested that the Court
appoint either administrative assistant Hillary Kieschnick (who was
Judge Gonzales' assistant) or Justice of the Peace Paul
Fischer. Citizen Billy Jaehne approached the Court and asked that he be considered for the position. Jaehne gave a brief history that included his educational and employment background. He then offered his resume' to the Court for their review. (Photo: Justice Fischer being offered the appointment) Retired U.S. Air pilot Charles Murray, who had asked to be considered earlier in the week, withdrew his name from the running. He sited conditions associated with his retirement that prohibited him from being gainfully employed. He later told Lee County Live that he was planning to run for the position in the next election - once he worked out the situation associated with his retirement. The Commissioners broke from the meeting and went into executive session to discuss each of the candidates. After 32 minutes the group emerged and, in response to a motion made by Commissioner Hartfield, accepted Gonzales' resignation. The announcement that J P Paul Fischer would be offered the appointment soon followed. Fischer respectfully accepted the assignment and the meeting was adjourned.
