Giddings Police investigate Criminal Trespass case, possible animal cruelty

Giddings police investigated a case of criminal trespass last Monday, January 25th after a complainant called to report that someone had entered his property and kicked in the door of his dog kennel.

The details of the case involve possible animal cruelty.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:20 P.M. at a home on Oakbend Lane which is on the west side of Giddings.

When officers arrived at the scene they met with homeowners Prissy and Jesus Barrera who stated that someone had entered the backyard of their residence and kicked in the main gate to the dog kennel. Inthe police report the officer stated that he checked the gate and it did show signs of tampering.

Mr. Barrera told the officers that when he arrived home from work he noticed that one of his dogs was running loose. He said that he went to the backyard and noticed that the gate was opened, in the inward position, and his other dog was missing. Barrera told police that the dog, a mixed Terrier, was approximately 15 years old and had health issues.

Officer Anthony Ramirez reported that he then called Giddings Animal Control and was told that they had pick-up a dog matching the Terrier's description near the auto dealership at 1800 West Austin.

The dog that had been found running loose at the house, a Rottweiler, was reportedly injured and could barley walk. The Barrera's later reported that when the dogs were examined by a veterinarian numerous bite marks were found on both animals.

The Police Department has listed the case as "inactive" with no leads.
