DPS Trooper stops vehicle: Occupant has gun shot wound

2/16/09  A local Department of Public Safety trooper stopped a vehicle in the early morning hours Friday, only to find out that an occupant of the vehicle had an accidental gun shot wound to the foot.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:09 a.m. last Friday morning when Trooper Ordie Manner was on patrol. During the stop Trooper Manner learned that 21year old Kevin Robert McVicker of Rockford, IL sustained an injury to his foot when he took possession of an antique .22 caliber rifle.

The loaded gun went off and struck McVicker while he and three other men were at the Country Inn motel located at 369 South Main in Giddings. Paul Longoria of Brighton, CO was listed in the police department incident report as a witness.  

McVicker was transported to St. Mark's Hospital in LaGrange where he received  treatment for his injury.

The information included in the DPS report was relayed to the Giddings Police Department by Trooper Manner but the mishap was not called in to police by the victim or any of the witnesses at the scene.
