Lady Buffs 5-0 in first round of district, 26-5 for the season

The Lady Buffs basketball team knocked off Rockdale last Tuesday then defeated Navasota on Friday to take their season record to 26-5.
The squad brought home a decisive victory aagainst Rockdale with a 57-44 decision.
The Lady Buffs were led by Kayla Winkfield, 17, Ma’Neesah
Reese, 13, Darrecia Johnson, 11, Allyson Roberts, 10, Tavia
Richard, 6, Hannah Michel 1, Brittany Richard, 1, Sarah Owen,
Kalyn Morgan, Summer Korzekwa and Ashton Allee. Kayla
Winkfield and Tavia Richard each had a 3 pointer in the contest.
On Friday, January 20th the Lady Buffs had a showdown with Navasota. The contest would determine the district lead. The Lady Buffs topped the Lady Rattlers as they pulled off a 69-52 win.
“This was a battle between two really good teams," said
Coach Albers. "We could never put them away even though we had a
10-12 point lead a few times. They would fight back to cut it
back to 6. Finally, late in the 4th quarter we were able
to build the lead and win by 17,” Coach Albers stated.
“The Lady Buffs really gave a tremendous effort in a very
physical game.”
Giddings was led by Darrecia Johnson, 25, Kayla Winkfield,
21, Ma’Neesah Reese, 10, Allyson Roberts, 6, Kalyn Morgan, 4,
Brittany Richard, 3, Sarah Owen, Hannah Michel, Summer Korzekwa,
Tavia Richard and Becca Blakney. Kalyn Morgan hit a big 3
pointer in the 4th quarter.
The Lady Buffs host LaGrange on Tuesday, then travel to Caldwell on Friday with JV starting at 5:00 p.m. Varsity will follow at 6:30 p.m.
The team is 26-5 on the year and 5-0 in district.
