Burglary Of
Storage Unit Reported By Giddings Man 12/26/08 A Giddings man reported that an outboard motor was taken from his storage unit at the BZB Storage facility located behind B&W Grocery Store in Giddings. Vernon Medack reported the theft on December 22nd when Det. Cpl. Carvin of the Giddings Police Department met with him at the facility. Medack stated that on December 2nd he discovered that the Master lock (used to secure the door of the unit) had been cut and that the door was slightly open. Medack added that he "bought another lock and secured the building but did not inventory his stored items at that time." When he entered the building on December 22nd he discovered that his 8 horse power Mercury Marine outboard motor was gone. The motor is valued at $2000.00. Persons of interest have been identified and the Giddings Police are continuing to investigate the case. This case is the second burglary of a public storage facility reported within the month of December. The other incident was reported on December 8th and involved an RV which was reported missing from H&H Storage on Highway 290 West in Giddings. |
Man Decides Not To Pursue Charges After Reporting Cut Brake Line 12/27/08 A Giddings man decided not to pursue charges after learning that someone cut his brake line while he was having dinner at Circle W Restaurant. Matthew Matthijetz, Sr. reported the incident to law enforcement officer Sterling Taylor on Wednesday, December 24th. Matthijetz stated that when he returned to his vehicle after leaving the restaurant on Monday, December 22nd, he "discovered that he didn't have any brakes on his truck". He then took the truck to Stanley Auto Plex where he "was notified by an auto technician that the brake line had been cut". Matthijetz advised Officer Taylor that he knew who the suspect was and did not want to pursue any charges at this time. Matthijetz instead wanted only to make a report of the incident. Matthijetz stated that if the mischief continued he would pursue action against the suspect. Giddings Police Respond To Burglary At Local Business 12/23/08 On Monday, December 15th Giddings Police officers responded to an alarm at the Movie Gallery business located on Highway in Giddings. Officers Connolly and Shepard were dispatched to the store and noticed fresh scratches on the rear door of the building. When the store manager arrived the officers entered the facility and observed muddy shoe prints on the carpet in the main office in front of the safe. The officers gathered fingerprints from the scene and the manager checked to see if any merchandise or money was missing from the safe. The manager reported that nothing was missing and police are continuing to investigate the incident. Giddings Police Arrest Giddings Man For "Found" Narcotics and Outstanding Warrant12/23/08 Officers with the Giddings Police Department arrested Jonathan Michael Gunter, 32, of Giddings for suspected narcotics possession and an outstanding warrant. The arrest occurred after they received a "call-for-service" from Bernie's Bar located at 2110 East Hempstead Street in Giddings. The incident took place on Tuesday, December 16th at approximately 9:08 in the evening. The caller reported that a small amount of marijuana had been found on the floor of the business. Gunter was identified as the person who "possibly" dropped the drugs. Upon investigating the situation the officers learned that Gunter had an outstanding Lee County Warrant. Gunter was subsequently placed under arrest for the outstanding warrant and for "found narcotics". Gunter was taken into custody and booked into the Lee County Law Enforcement Center. |
