Kuwait's Aref Energy Announces Gas Find In South Central Texas, Dewitt County 12/15/08 A Kuwaiti company, that is in a joint venture partnership with U.S. partners, recently announced that it has discovered large natural gas quantities in Dewitt County, Texas. The results of samples taken from exploratory wells showed a reserve volume of nearly 25 trillion cubic feet of hydrocarbons, according to the company's website. Natural gas accounts for nearly 19 trillion cubic feet of the find. Recoverable amounts are estimated at 4.75 trillion cubic feet. The company said that "when taking into consideration a recovery factor of 25%, the volume of gas available for production might be estimated with 4.75 trillion cubic feet".Aref selected Halliburton as the project manager and drilling activities are underway. Halliburton has taken steps to "commerce" the gas production operations and actual production is expected to begin the first quarter of 2009. According to the company's website, in 2007 Aref Energy set up Dewitt Tract Co. that has a 50 percent share in a 20-year oil and gas drilling and production project that contains 75,000 acres of land in Dewitt County. Dewitt County is located south of Lavava and Gonzales counties and includes towns like Cuero - which is the county seat, Yoakum and Yorktown. Dewitt County's estimated population, according to 2007 U.S. Census figures, is approximately 19,730. |
