“Big Mike”, as he was known in Loebau, was passionate about his beloved cows, little dog, Biddie, and his big, black Quarter horse, Chance. However, his heart belonged to his land and living the dream life he created with Maureen.
Many will remember Michael in his striped overalls, raggedy T-shirt, cowboy hat draped over his jug after three passes of rum poured over ice with a dash of Diet Coke, ready to take on the world’s problems or discuss cattle prices while sitting in his corner chair at the Loebau Store. He also held at seat every Saturday at the director’s meeting at the Wagon Stop. He thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie and closeness of the small community.
The family is grateful for the loving care he received at Lone Star Oncology and Hospice Austin during his tough final days. Most of all, they wish to thank a true angel of nursing and adopted member of the family, Kathleen, for her wit and humor, honesty, and always getting it right on the first try. Her compassion had no boundaries.

Alvin
John Orsag passed away peacefully at his home in
Lexington, Texas on November 13, 2008 at the age
of 83.
Alvin was born in Dime Box, Texas to John Orsag and Helen Zelenevitz Orsag on April 30, 1925. At the age of six, when he enrolled at a rural community school, Alvin only spoke Czech.
While in high school in Dime Box, he developed an interest in radio. After high school graduation, he completed a one-year course in electronics at Blinn College.
He moved to Giddings in 1943 and began Orsag's radio and electric appliance repair business on a one hundred dollar loan from his parents. Always the hard worker, he steadily grew his business by including additional products to sell and repair. The business blossomed with the development of television. When TV first started broadcasting, it was quite the event for people to gather and watch TV at the store located on US Highway 290 in downtown Giddings. Always by his side in the business, he and his wife, Elder B. bought the Namken Furniture Store upon August Namken's retirement. In 1968 both locatations were combined to blend the furniture lines with the appliance, television and repair business. In 1983 he added a second Orsag's store location in Rockdale, Texas. With the help of family members and many loyal employees, Alvin grew Orsag's into well respected home furnishings stores in central Texas.
At the end of the business day, Alvin enjoyed unwinding by tending to his cattle and his many projects including repairing his old tractors at the family ranch in Lexington, Texas. Alvin and Elder B. loved to travel and they were fortunate to see many parts of the world.
Alvin was a founding director of Lee County National Bank in Giddings, a member of the Chamber of Commerce and was involved in many community projects over the years. He was a member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Giddings.
Upon retirement, Alvin was excited about moving with Elder B. to the farm. His design and carpentry talents are showcased in the addition to the small house previously relocated there. He so loved the many family gatherings that his great room accomodated.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, his baby brother and his sister, Leona.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elder B. Orsag; daughter, Sharon Foster, daughter and son-in-law, Glenda & Bill Barker, son and daughter-in-law, Larry & Donna Orsag all of Giddings and daughter, Cindy Orsag Simons of Austin. Survivors also include grandsons, John Foster and wife, Rhonda, Matt Foster and wife, Sarah, Jim Barker and wife, Cathy, David Orsag and wife, Hope, Darren Orsag and wife, Holly and Andrew Orsag.
