The Giddings Girls Cross Country team claimed 3rd place at the State
meet Saturday at Old Settler's Park in Round Rock. The team finished with a total of 142 points behind first place Decatur who had 27 points and second place Llano who had 85 points. Rounding out the top four was Argyle who managed 157 points.
Giddings
Senior Candice Joyce, who is usually the strongest runner for the Lady
Buffs, had to run most of the race in one shoe after losing the other
near the beginning of the event. Despite the problem Joyce finished in 28th place overall and was the third Giddings runner to cross the finish line.
Daphne
Payton was the top runner for Giddings with an 18th overall finish and a
time of 12:38.27. Taylor Blasig finished in 20th place overall and had a time of 12:41.32. Candice Joyce was next to cross the line for the Giddings squad, with a time of 12:54.64.
Isabel Bahena (12:59.31, 33rd) and Elise Keistman (13:11.41, 43rd) rounded out the top five (scoring) places for Giddings.
The two other competitors ("alternates") for the Lady Buffs were Vivian Hernandez (13:39.73, 66th) and Alyssa Sanders (14:28.88, 78th).
