Giddings Baseball team finishes in second place at Rockdale/Cameron Tourney  

 

3/1/09  The Giddings baseball team finished in second place in the Rockdale/Cameron Tournament held this past Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The Buffs played in the championship match-up Saturday night and fell to 3A Waco Robinson by a score of 7-4.

 

Giddings began the series on Thursday, beating 2008 3A State Champion, Snyder, by a dominant score of 10-1. Zach Berry and Philip Fritsche pitched for the Buffs and Ethan Kmoch managed to slam a homerun.

 

The Buffs moved to game two Thursday evening, pounding 3A Shepherd 15-2. Philip Fritsche and Brooks Marlow worked on the mound for Giddings.

 

On Friday Giddings beat 2A Rogers 8-3. Ethan Kmoch pitched for the Buffs as they moved towards the championship game.  Brooks Marlow went 3 for 3, cranking one homerun that he launched over the monster wall in centerfield.

 

Giddings proceeded to the next game and claimed a shutout over the home team 3A Rockdale Tigers. Trey Masek pitched a no hitter with 13 strikeouts and Brooks Marlow hit his second homerun of the tournament.

 

The Buffs battled but came up short in the final, losing to Robinson late Saturday night. Brooks Marlow and Ethan Kmoch received All-Tournament honors and Ty Marlow was selected as the Tournament MVP.

 

Giddings will travel to meet St. Stephens on Tuesday before heading to the Sealy Tournament on Thursday.
