2/3/09 After finishing the 2008 season and making it to the semi-final round of the state playoffs, Giddings finds itself ranked 3rd in the pre-season poll released Thursday by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association (THSBCA).
The coaches group bases its rankings on each teams previous years performance, factoring in how many returners each team will field.
Giddings returns seven starters from the 2008 team that finished the season with an overall record of 22-11-1. The squad ended their 2008 run falling to Taylor in two games.
According to the poll, the Buffs fall into the third slot - behind their 2008 nemesis Taylor, who took the second place position. The first place spot in the poll has been filled by Cuero, a team that is situated in Region 4 - where Giddings currently resides.
Bellville was the only other team from District 25-3A that made the THSBCA Top 10. The Brahmas, ranked ninth this year, made it to the Area round in 2008, before falling to Jasper. Bellville returns eight starters from their 2008 season when they went 16-12.
Giddings will begin their season on February 26th at the Rockdale - Cameron Tournament. District play for the Buffaloes will begin on March 24th in Bellville.
