Lady Buffs head to state playoffs

2/15/09  Next weekend the Lady Buffs begin their 2009 state playoff run when they meet the winner of the Edna/Luling matchup which will be played either Monday or Tuesday night.

Giddings became the District 25 champion on Tuesday after they beat Columbus, the girls ended district play at 9-1. Giddings then claimed the bi-district title by virtue of a "bye" - earned by placing first in District 25. Their first game in the playoff bracket will be in the "Area" round, Feb. 19th-21st.

Luling knocked off La Vernia on Saturday 48-46, to obtain the 3rd place position in District 27 and advance to the playoffs.

Last Tuesday District 27 finished with a three way tie for third, between Poteet, La Vernia and Luling. La Vernia beat Poteet on Friday night 38-34, but then lost to Luling on Saturday.

Edna finished as the 2nd place team in District 28, managing a record of 8-2. The Cowgirls suffered both of their district losses to Cuero. The Lady Gobblers took the District 28 crown with a record of 9-1, losing only to district rival Yoakum.
