MySpace comments lead to fight, arrest on outstanding warrant

Wednesday, December 23, 2009

On Thursday December 17th, Giddings police responded to a caller who reported a fight between two women in the B& W Grocery Store parking lot. The caller informed dispatch that the individuals had left the scene and gave a description of one of the vehicles.

The vehicle was located by officers as it was parking at the Shade Tree Apartments on South Polk Street. Two females exited the vehicle and were detained and questioned by Officer Jason Strong and Sgt. Farah Ramsey. One of the women Toni M. Cook, 27, admitted that she had been involved in a fight with another female, later identified as Sade Davis, 24.

Cook claimed that the altercation occurred because Davis had been posting negative statements about her on MySpace. Cook stated further that Davis almost hit Cook's three-year old nephew in the grocery store parking lot. An argument had ensued and the two ended up in a physical confrontation.

Cook told officers that she fought back when Davis began to hit her in the face. Cook received minor cuts and scratches on her fingers, to her arm and forehead.  Cook's eye showed signs of swelling and redness and she lost fingernails as a result of the fight.

Cook informed the officers that there might be a warrant out for her with regard to a previous Theft arrest. Police dispatch confirmed that Lee County had issued a warrant for Cook for Theft by Check. Cook was taken into custody for the warrant and told the officers that she wanted to press charges against Davis for Assault. Cook was told that she could file charges on Davis the next day by coming to the Giddings Police Department.

Officer Derek Griffin interviewed Sade Davis and four others who witnessed the disturbance. Charges of Disorderly Conduct/Fighting were expected, according to one of the responding officers the pair was engaged in "mutual combat".
