Giddings Police investigate attempted break-in at local business Witness chased suspects who fled the scene 2/2/09 Giddings police are continuing an investigation into the attempted break-in of Mel's Diner in Giddings. The investigation began when police officers were dispatched to the business at approximately 4:09 a.m. on Monday, January 26th. Giddings police officers Spencer and Byrd responded to the call for assistance from an employee of the business. The employee, Beth Fogle, called police dispatch after arriving for work and witnessing two black men at the back door trying to force their way into the building. Fogle reported that one of the men was holding a crow bar but that they both left when she arrived at the scene. Fogle stated that the two men got into a dark-colored, older model pick-up and fled the area through the Brookshire Brothers parking lot. Fogle reportedly followed the suspects who went through the parking lot and headed south on Polk Street. Fogle abandoned the chase when one of the men fled on foot, but she was able to get a description of the suspects for police. Officers Spencer and Byrd met with Ms. Fogle to get her statement and the description of the men and to secured the business. The investigation is ongoing. Criminal Mischief complaint filed in involving victim's gas tank 2/2/09 Giddings Police officers responded to a call from Amber Lang who lives in the Rolling Oaks Subdivision on the west side of Giddings. Officer Connolly was dispatched to the scene on January 26th to investigate a situation that had occurred the previous day. Officer Connolly interview Mrs. Lang who called in the complaint after noticing a puddle under her vehicle on January 25th. Lang's husband had crawled under the vehicle, a maroon 2006 Ford F-150 pick-up, to check for a problem and assist his wife. The husband's inspection found that a screw had been twisted into the gas tank - causing it to leak. There is no report as to when the screw had actually been place in the tank or where the vehicle was parked when the incident took place. The gas tank is listed as destroyed/damaged and is valued at $400. The investigation into this case is ongoing. |
