Crash near Yoakum claims the lives of two from Giddings

Two individuals, residents of Giddings, died Friday afternoon after an accident that happened near Yoakum. According to reports the incident occurred during a rain storm.
The Victoria Advocate reported that a car "hydroplaned, crossed the centerline and collided with a pickup about two miles north of Yoakum".
Killed in the wreck were Jose Alfredo Carrizales-Maldonado, age 20, and Maria del Carmen Rocha-Fernandez, age 42. Both were residents of Giddings, Carrizales-Maldonado graduated from Giddings High School in 2009.
Lavaca County Justice of the Peace Alene Lyons has ordered an autopsy on Carrizales-Maldonado, who was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.
The wreck,
which occurred at approximately 2:25 P.M. on alternate Highway 77, is being investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety Public Safety.
Carrizales-Maldonado and Rocha-Fernandez were driving northbound when their car, a 2008 Suzuki, hydroplaned and traveled across the centerline and crashed into a 1997 Ford F350 pickup which was headed southbound in the adjacent lane.
The driver of the pickup, sixty-five year-old Joan Simper and her husband sixty-five year-old Joseph Simper, both of Shiner, were taken to Yoakum Community Hospital by ambulance.
The report in the Victoria Advocate indicated that all four people involved in the accident were wearing seatbelts and that no citations were issued.
