Men stopped for traffic violation: arrested for DWI, criminal trespass

2/9/09  Two men who were stopped for a traffic violation on Monday, February 2nd were arrested according to Giddings police officer D.A. Griffin. The incident took place at approximately 1:39 a.m.

Cesar Adrian Cardenas, 30 of Giddings, was arrested on charges of DWI as he was driving a white 2004 Chrysler Sebring in the 500 block of South Polk in Giddings. Cardenas was also sited for Driving While License Invalid/Suspended - Enhanced, No Insurance - 2nd, and Failure to Display Drivers License.

A passenger in the car was also arrested during the traffic stop. Billy Huff, 49 of Ledbetter, was taken into custody for alleged Criminal Trespass of the Shade Tree Apartments located at 497 South Polk.

Both suspects were transported to the Lee County jail and the vehicle was impounded.

Woman reports burglary of residence

2/9/09  A Giddings woman returned to her residence from a trip out-of-town to find that her home had been burglarized while she was gone. Giddings police officers Connolly and Spencer responded to the scene on South Williamson Street.

The complainant, Ashley Leer of Giddings, notified police of the situation at approximately 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 7th. Leer stated that when she got into the house she noticed that several articles were gone.

Leer noted that her 37" Vizio flat screen TV was missing along with various other  household items.

Leer also informed the officers that her house key, which was kept in a "secret spot outside the house" was missing.

Officer Spencer collected fingerprints from the scene for evidence, the case is under investigation.
