Drug dog "hits" on vehicles at GHS, one student arrested

3/30/09  One GHS student was arrested and another was issued a citation after a drug detection dog made positive "hits" on vehicles in the GHS parking lot last week.

GHS Assistant Principal Chad Rood and dog handler Roy Burris made a sweep of the school parking lots on Wednesday, March 25th. The dog allegedly "hit" on two vehicles during the impromptu check which began just after school started at approximately 9:00 a.m.

The drug detection dog made a "positive" signal on a black 1994 BMW which was driven by student Miranda Kuehn, 17 of Giddings. Kuehn was taken from class and brought out into the parking lot to unlock her automobile. Police Officers Carvin and Ray were called to the scene to be involved in a search of the vehicles.  After Kuehn opened the car, Mr. Burris located a small, clear plastic baggie containing a white powdery substance, which was believed to be cocaine. Cigarettes and a lighter were also found inside the center console of the vehicle.

According to the police incident report, the officers tested the powdery substance using a NIK cocaine wipe and the substance tested positive for cocaine.

Kuehn was subsequently placed under arrest for Possession of a Controlled Substance

(<1 gram) in a Drug Free Zone. The offences is considered by Texas law a 3rd degree felony. She was transported to the Lee County Jail without incident.

The other vehicle that was alerted on was a red 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier which was driven by student Jose Trevino, 18 of Giddings. Inside Trevino's automobile Mr. Burris and Mr. Rood located a marijuana "roach". Trevino was issued a citation for possession of Drug Paraphernalia and was released at the scene.
