Police make drug arrests during three separate traffic stops
4/1/09 Giddings Police made drug arrests as a result of three separate traffic stops last week. March 24, 2009 A 21 year old Huffman man, Jared Beals, was pulled over for speeding in the 400 block of East Austin Street. Beal was allegedly driving 64 mph in a 40 mph zone. Officer Harrison reported that a Police Department background check on Beals contained previous arrests for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana and Assault. During a conversation with officers Beals admitted to being around marijuana earlier in the day. After issuing Beals a citation for speeding, Officer Harrison requested consent to search the 2003 Jeep Wrangler Beals was driving. Beals agreed and a search ensued. Officers Ramirez assisted with the search which yielded two plastic bags, which were located under the drivers seat, that contained marijuana. The officers also located an IV bag which Beals said he "used for his drug test". Beals was subsequently arrested on charges of Possession of Marijuana and booked into the Lee County jail. March 25, 2009 A man and woman from Round Rock were arrested by Giddings Police when Officer Adam Shepard stopped a 2001 Ford Mustang in the 300 block of East Austin. Officer Shepard stated in his incident report that when he made contact with the driver, Cheryl Steeves, 26, he observed marijuana seeds on the floor board of the car. Police dispatch notified Officer Shepard that Steeves was driving with a suspended license. At that point Steeves was taken into custody. Officer Shepard then search the vehicle and located a plastic container, under the passengers seat, which contained what officers believed to be marijuana. The passenger, 35 year old, Christopher Schoenemann was arrested and both of the subjects were charged with Possession of Marijuana. March 29, 2009 Buster Lee Pampell, 27 of Giddings, was arrested in the 900 block of N. Grimes Street after he was stopped for allegedly running a stop sign. When Officer Joseph Harrison made contact with Pampell, Pampell stated that he did not have a drivers license. As the result of a DPS database check, officers discovered that Pampell's license had been suspended for no insurance. Pampell was arrested for Driving While License Invalid and a wrecker was called to tow his vehicle. While taking inventory of Pampell's Chevrolet Blazer, Sgt. Ramirez observed a clear plastic bag containing a white "ice like" substance known to be "'crystal meth" lying at the bottom of the center console near the floor. Pampell was subsequently charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (Analogue) and Driving While License Invalid and taken to the Lee County Jail. |
