Norris "Tiny" Winfred Harmon
(August 25, 1923 - May 30, 2011)

Norris Norris (Tiny) Harmon passed away at age 87 on Monday, May 30, 2011 at his home in Paige. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Giddings. Burial will follow in the Ridgeway Cemetery in Paige, Texas. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 7:00 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present for visitation Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Norris "Tiny" Winfred Harmon was born on August 25, 1923 to Mary and George Harmon in Arkansas. Tiny joined the Army on March 2, 1943 and was honorably discharged on December 12, 1945 after serving in WWII.

Tiny was preceded in death by his Sweetheart, his wife of 60 years, Gracie Mae Harmon; his granddaughter Renae Harmon; his great grandson, Matthew Gutierrez and three brothers.

He is survived by his son Mike and daughter-in-law Gina Harmon of Little Rock, AR; his son Dean and daughter-in-law Nanda Harmon of Albuquerque, NM; son Bob Harmon of Paige, TX; son Ronnie and daughter-in-law Debbie Harmon of Paige, TX; daughter Becky Harmon and friend Ann Deal of Ventura, CA.

He is also survived by two brothers, Dewey Harmon and Eugene Harmon both of Arkansas and four sisters, Margie Neer of Conroe, Ouida Brossette of Arkansas, Charlene Edmonds of Nebraska and Joyce Raborn of Arkansas; nine grandchildren, Rhonda Conroy of California, Charlie Harmon of Missouri, Chris Harmon of Bastrop, Carlos & Deana Guerrero of Goose Creek, SC, Shane Wright of Hills, TX, Chelle & Michael Dube of McDade, TX, Jon & Kimberly Holt of Gentry, AR, Mellecia Archuleta of Los Lunas, NM and Bridget & Juan Hinojos of Los Lunas, NM; 23 great grandchildren and his very special friend, Mary Ellen Hall of Bastrop. He was blessed to have had such loving grandchildren as Chelle and Michael Dube and Shane Wright who took very special care of him during his transition in life.

Tiny was a hard worker, very proud and a very honest man. After he was discharged from the Army he set out to work at numerous jobs until he was able to become the owner of his own business, his own self/full service laundry and dry cleaners in Pasadena. He and Gracie were very proud of this business and also proud of the five children that they raised. After Tiny sold the business, he and Gracie moved to Paige and moved into Gracie’s mother’s house. This is where they lived out the rest of their lives to the fullest. They met a lot of friends and enjoyed a very full life after moving to Paige. He worked numerous jobs in Giddings.

After another retirement, he became an Insurance Agent and sold auto, home and life insurance. He was a member of the Paige United Methodist Church, the American Legion Post 276 and the Sons of Herman Lodge 154 in Paige. He also enjoyed spending time at the senior citizens center in Bastrop. No task was too “tiny” for this man. In his 60’s is when he had to take the test for his insurance license. He enjoyed traveling his last few years; he traveled to London, England, Florence and Rome Italy and Paris, France in 2010. Every birthday, he was able to spend it somewhere special….last year, he enjoyed his 87th birthday in New Orleans….he had a wonderful time! August 25, 2011 he would have turned 88, he was more concerned about renewing his driver’s license than he was about turning 88. Apparently, without anyone knowing, he recently had “polished” his driving skills by taking a class.

As you can see, our Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Friend – Tiny – (Norris) Harmon was a lover of life, his family and his Country and we are very proud of him and his life.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Austin, the American Cancer Society or the charity of one's choice.

Her first grandson Byron Ebelt (wife Hilaree Casada) named her “MeMa”. She was then lovingly referred to as MeMa by all of her grandchildren, Krista Ebelt Moczygemba (husband Nathan Moczygemba), Eddie Mitchell, Debbie Mitchell Scroggins (husband Wayne Scroggins), Bridget Dube West (husband Nicholas “Bear” West) and Amanda Dube Anderson (husband Ross Anderson), as well as by all of their close friends.

She loved to embroidery and sew with her projects almost always resulted in some very special sentimental gift for a loved one. All of her grandchildren and great grandchildren have beautiful quilts or blankets to remember her by.

Whether she was busy working on a quilt, blanket or doll clothes, cooking, gardening or tending to family, she was never short on energy. Her family oftrn referred to her as the “Energizer Bunny”.

And with all of that energy, she always made time for her family - especially her grandchildren. She often had all of her grandchildren together at once and the activities could range from camping, fishing, canoeing to sewing, making Barbie clothes, playing games, baking cookies, making mud pies or taking long walks through the cow trails having special talks. All memories her grandchildren will cherish for a lifetime and why she has absolutely meant the world to them.

And she especially enjoyed her dear friend, Rita Owens, and her regular 5-o’clock visits that would usually involve fresh cut flowers and lots of giggles that would always brighten her day.

She spent most of her years as a homemaker, but also worked for the Lexington ISD lunch room and Invader Boats as a seamstress.

She was active with her church helping to make quilts, braille books and fund raising meals. She could be found almost every year at the Fedor Volunteer Fire Department Fish Fry serving tea.
