All five GHS Athletes medal at State meet

All five of the GHS athletes who qualified won medals at the state track and field meet which was held this weekend in Austin.
The girls 4x200 relay team placed 2nd and set a new school record with a time of 1.41:52. Keanna Winlfield, Kayla Winkfield, Asia Wilson and Deserae Davis run this event for the Lady Buffs.
Asia Wilson finished second in the 200m with a time of 25.10 and Deserae Davis took third in the 100m, logging a time of 12.09.
Xavier Daniels medaled in the 400m, finishing third with a time of 48.44.
With the success of track and field and baseball the Giddings athletic program has advanced to post season play in nine different sports: football, cross country, basketball(girls), powerlifting, tennis, golf, softball, baseball, and track.

GHS Track program qualifies five for State Meet

The Giddings High School girls track team finished in first place at the Regional meet at flour Bluff ISD in Corpus Christi. The girls racked up a total of 63 points. LaVernia finished second with 58 points.
The Lady Buff's 800m relay team, Kayla Winkfield, Deserea Davis, Crystal Washington, Asia Wilson, took first finishing with a time of 1:43.16.
Deserea Davis also took the top spot in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.21.
Asia Wilson will advance in the 200 meter dash after finishing with a time of 25.25.
Only one member of the boys team will make the trip to State. Xavier Daniels will compete in the 400 meter dash after clocking a 50.18 finish and claiming the first place medal.
Only athletes who finish in first and second are allowed to advance to the State meet which will be held on June 5th and 6th at Mike Meyers Stadium in Austin.

4/21/09 The Giddings High School Girls track team ran away with the District 25-3A title at the district meet which was held in Columbus last week. Both the JV and the Varsity team claimed first place positions at the event. The Varsity team racked up 219 points, 100 points more than second place finisher Sealy. The Giddings team expects to advance to the State meet which will be held at Mike Meyers Stadium, on the University of Texas campus, in Austin on May 15th and 16th. Two GHS golfers are headed to Regionals after posting second place
individual finishes at the District 25-3A tournament earlier this
week. Ethan Westfall and Anna Placke shot scores low enough to advance to the regional level and will continue in their efforts to play for a state individual title. Westfall heads to Regionals after shooting a 86.71 at the district tournament which was held Tuesday in Sealy. Placke closed with a score of 104.89. The first place individual finishers, on the boys and the girls side, were from Bellville. Both of the Giddings students are seniors and are in their fourth year of GHS golf. Anna
has qualified for Regionals all four years and is the only girl
golfer, in the history of GHS golf, to make this accomplishment. Two
other GHS golfers have reached this level but they were on the boys
team: Ryan Gersch and Jonathan Locke. Ethan has made it to Regionals
three out of four years with the team. The two winning teams in the district were the Columbus Boys and the Sealy Girls. Giddings was unable to qualify as a team this year. The Regional Tournament will be held on April 20 & 21 at the Lozano Gold Course in Corpus Christi. The State Tournament will be held May 14 & 15 at the Ray Kizer Golf Course in Austin.
Giddings runners dominate at Texas Relays, bring home "Gold" 4/6/09 Several Giddings runners dominated their Division I competition this past weekend at the Texas Relays in Austin and left Mike Meyers Stadium with the "gold" to prove it. Girls The Giddings girls contingent raked in most of the top finishes, garnering "gold" in three separate events. Senior Deserea Davis finished 1st in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.26 seconds, teammate Asia Wilson came in 2nd in the event at 12.30. The Giddings 4 x 100 meter relay team place 1st after being clocked with a time of 49.10. The team consists of junior Meagan Bradley, freshman Kayla Winkfield, senior Deserea Davis and junior Asia Wilson. The third gold medal performance was produced by the 4 x 200 meter relay team as they finished with a time of 1:42.61. Freshman Kayla Winkfield, senior Deserea Davis, senior Keanna Winkfield and junior Asia Wlison make up this first place group. The girls placed 4th in the 4 x 400 meter relay turning in a time of 4:03.14. Runners in this event were Dareccia Johnson, India Edwards, Daphne Payton and Keanna Winkfield. Boys On the boys side Corey Brite turned in the best Giddings performance finishing 1st in the 100 meter dash after running the race in 10.92 seconds. Corey had finished 4th in the preliminaries for this event but pull out all the stops in the finals and brought home the gold. The Giddings 4 x 400 relay team claimed a 5th place finish with a time of 3:24.62. Xavier Daniels, Marcellus Mack, Quinn Taylor and Corey Brite make up the team. Corey Brite, Eric Rimes, Marcellus Mack and Xavier Daniels competed in the 4 x 200 meter relay and came in 6th, logging a time of 1:30.08. Senior speedster Quinn Taylor rounded out the Buffaloes performances when he turned in a time of 15.24 and a 6th place finish in the 110 meter hurdles. The Buffaloes will compete at he district meet in Columbus on April 15th and 16th, and then head to the regional qualifiers meet in Brenham on April 24th. The Region 4 - 3A meet is set for May 1 and 2nd in Corpus Christi and the State meet will be held in Austin on May 15th and 16th. |
