The event will be held inside the Lee County Sheriff's Posse Arena on Highway 290 west of Giddings on Thursday, November 13th at 6:30 p.m. The boosters were forced to postpone their bonfire plans because of the county wide burn ban. Joining the athletes will be the Cheerleaders, Band and Buff Guys. The new 2008 Football Playoff t-shirts will be available at this event, prices start at $12. Girls Cross Country Team Advances To State 11/08/08 The GHS Girls Cross Country team advanced to the State meet by finishing 3rd in the regional meet which was held in San Antonio on Saturday. While the places and times were not yet available top finishers for Giddings were Candice Joyce, Daphne Payton, Isabel Bahena, Elise Keistman and Taylor Blasig. As an individual, Joyce placed in the top 10 so she will also compete for the Individual crown at the State meet. The Giddings boys were unable to advance with an eleventh place finish. The State finals will be held Saturday, November 15th at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. Cross Country Teams Off To Regionals 11/6/08 Both the boys and girls Giddings Cross Country teams are headed to the regional meet in San Antonio after winning the district meet that was held at the Giddings Airport on October 29th. This years Regional event will be held at Brook Airbase San Antonio on Saturday November 8th. The 3A boys teams are expected to compete at 11:40 a.m. and the girls are scheduled to run at noon. The teams plan to leave Giddings Friday morning at approximately 10:00 a.m. Giddings has competed well at Regionals in the past and hopes to get the opportunity to advance to the State meet which is Saturday, November 15th at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. Volleyball Updates Notes From Coach Rebovich
Tuesday night (10/28) our Varsity and Junior
Varsity traveled to Sealy for our last
District volleyball matches of 2008. Our
Varsity fell to a much improved Sealy
Varsity (6-25, 10-25, 11-25).
JV played a very close second set but were defeated (13-25, 23-25). Our Freshmen traveled to Bellville for a dual match with Bellville and LaGrange in order to make up for Sealy's lack of a Freshman team. At this time, I only have the results of the Freshman match between Giddings and Bellville. Bellville defeated our Freshmen (20-25, 22-25). As soon as I receive the results of the
Giddings and LaGrange match, I will forward
it.
Bellville's Varsity won the District by
going 10-0. LaGrange and Columbus had a
playoff for 2nd and 3rd on Saturday,
November 1.
Our Freshman season record (minus the last
LaGrange match) is 12-11. The JV record is
11-12. Our Varsity record is 11-17.
Giddings Cross Country Teams Claim 1st In District, Shatter Competition Photos by Hayley Albers and GHS Students 10/29/08
Both the boys and girls varsity cross country
teams took first place at the district meet
Wednesday morning, shattering the competition.
Giddings hosted this years meet, conducting the event at the Giddings Airport. The
varsity boys scored 19 points in their 1st place
finish, out-matching the rest of the field by 34
points. Sealy placed second with 53 points. The
boys event is a 5k run. Individually all seven of the runners on the boys team placed in the top 25 - five runners placed in the top 10. Colton Christiansen took top honors placing first with a time of 16:52.94. Other Giddings results were: 3rd place Adrian Parker (17:50.02), 4th place Stephen Cooper (18:02.94), 5th place Erik Gaitan (18:13.21), 6th place Kyle Holman (18:21.00), 16th place Preston Pruitt (19:38.55), 24th place Charles Grube (20:09.49) The varsity girls also blew away their competition. They finished first as a team with a score of 24, beating the closes competitor by 38 points. Smithville came in second with a score of 62. The girls compete in a 2000 meter run. The first place girl was S. Ziats (12:15.58) from Smithville. Giddings had four runners finish in the top 10 individually: 2nd place Candice Joyce (12:25.73), 3rd place Daphne Payton (12:48.37), 4th place Elise Keistman (12:54.19), 5th place Isabel Bahena (12:55.43). Three other Giddings runners finished in the top 25: 11th place Alyssa Sanders (13:34.30), 13th place Vivian Hernandez (13:38.49), 22nd place Alejandra Bahena (14:24.90). Scoring in Cross Country is different than in most other sports. Individually, runners are given points based on what place they finish in. For example, the first place runner gets one point, second place gets two points. To determine the team winner officials tally (using a computer program) the individual points and the team with the lowest number of points is the winner. Winning teams will consistently have several runners in the top 10. Even if you don't have a runner who can finish in first, the way to win as a team and qualify for State is to have several runners together at the top. That's how Giddings was able to claim both district titles. The two teams will compete in the Regional meet in San Antonio on November 8th, hopefully qualifying for the State meet on November 15th in Round Rock. Volleyball Update Notes from Coach Rebovich On 10/21 (Parent's Night) we hosted Columbus. Our Freshmen were defeated (11-25, 22-25). Our JV took control and won their match (25-12, 26-24). Our Varsity played an excellent 2nd game but were ultimately defeated by Columbus's more aggressive play (14-25, 21-25, 9-25).
On 10/24 we hosted LaGrange. Our Freshmen
outplayed LaGrange (25-16, 25-20). Our JV fell
to LaGrange (15-25, 15-25).
Our Varsity was defeated in the 1st game 11-25. For the second game of the match, an all Sophomore/Junior team took the floor and scored more points but were defeated 16-25. The 3rd game started with the same underclassmen lineup but, they were aided by the seniors as the game progressed. The 3rd game ended 15-25.
The underclassmen are Kelly Becker, Heather
Belyeu, Caitie Carney, Candace Gersch, Whitney
Keith, and Cassidy Melcher.
This week the JV and V have their last District
matches in Sealy on Tuesday night (10/28). The
Freshmen will play a dual match in Bellville
against Bellville and LaGrange, also on Tuesday
night (10/28).
The Freshmen are 12-10 for the season. The JV is

Our Freshmen won in 2 straight (25-16, 25-19). Our JV was defeated
in 2 straight (12-25, 15-25).
Our Varsity fought hard but was defeated (13-25, 9-25, 11-25).
LaGrange's club affiliation, selection process (54 players cut to
30), and
playoff experience contributed to the difference in our scores.
On Friday (10/10/08) in our gym, our JV defeated Sealy (19-25, 25-21, 25-10). Our Varsity fell to Sealy (17-25, 17-25, 15-25). Sealy does not have a freshman team this season. This last week, the Varsity has implemented some major changes in lineup and focus in an effort to raise our competitiveness to the needed level. More and harder hitting was one result of the change in focus. We have to maintain our consistency in serving and passing while taking more risks in serving and hitting. This week marks the start of the second half of District with play in Smithville on Tuesday night (10/14) and competition in Bellville on Friday (10/17). Our Freshmen are 10-7, our JV is 9-9 and our Varsity is 10-13. Varsity vs. LaGrange: LaGrange tops Giddings in three game match 25-13, 25-9, 25-11. 10/7/08 On Tuesday (9/30/08) Giddings hosted the No. 6 ranked 3A team in the state. The Freshmen B team played Bellville two close games but were defeated 17-25, 19-25. The Freshmen A team played three close games but were also defeated after a game two rally 20-25, 25-21, 24-26. The JV squad played two tight games and lost 19-25, 16-25. The Varsity rallied in the second game of their match but went down in three 10-25, 21-25, 5-25. On Friday (10/3/08) Giddings traveled to Columbus to play the No. 3 ranked 3A team in the state. The Freshmen were defeated in two games 21-25, 23-25. JV also lost in two 14-25, 11-25. The Varsity lost a three game match 11-25, 11-25, 9-25. Freshmen carry a 9-7 record, JV is at 8-8, Varsity sits at 10-11. Coach Rebovich stated, "strong club volleyball programs in these two towns make the difference. Bellville has club for their middle school players with some players pursuing club into high school". "Columbus has had club volleyball for at least the last eight years". "Past volleyball successes have also spurred these two teams. Bellville has numerous state championships with Columbus making it to the state semi-finals last year". "These two towns don't have better athletes. Their athletes have more time playing top level volleyball through club [programs] and playoffs". "Our players continue to work hard and our Varsity has added Saturday morning practices to their week", added Coach Rebovich. Tuesday night (10/7/08) Giddings will travel to LaGrange and Friday night (10/10/08) they host Sealy.

Two Ike Evacuee Athletes At GHS
9/19/08 The playing fields of Giddings High School have become the home for at least two Ike evacuee athletes, one participates in Football and the other participates in Cross Country. The two children are from the same family and will likely return to their home within a couple of weeks. The family also evacuated to this area to stay with relatives after Hurricane Rita, and is from Beaumont, Texas. One of the family's older sons practiced with Giddings and played in a few games with the JV squad in September and October of 2005. UIL rules prevent the evacuees from participating at the Varsity level for 15 days after they begin at a new school. The students are allowed to participate in sub-varsity practices and games until the 16th day after enrolling with the new school district. If the student participates at the new school and then returns to their previous school when it reopens, they are not subject to the 15-day rule upon their return. They are eligible to participate with their original team immediately. UIL Guidelines For Evacuees Statesman Posts Most Winning" Central Texas Teams 9-19-08 Today, Statesman.com, the website for the Austin American Statesman, posted a list of Central Texas' most winning teams since 2004. Teams who had won more than 40 games were acknowledged with Giddings and Lexington both making their way to the list. Giddings was listed at the No. 5 spot while Lexington made the list at the No. 4 position. (School / W-L / Winning pct.) Liberty Hill 52-8 .866 Copperas Cove 50-9 .847 Lake Travis 45-7 .865 Lexington 44-13 .772 Giddings 42-10 .807 Wimberley 42-10 .807 Blanco 41-13 .759 9/17/08 The Lady Buffs volleyball team battled Thorndale on Tuesday night but came up short losing in a five game match. The battle for the match went back and fourth and the Lady Buffs found themselves fighting to claim the win in game five. The girls won the first game 27-25 but lost game two 13-25. They also lost the third game 21-25 and then turned around and won the fourth game 25-18. The squad struggled and came up short losing game five 11-15. The loss brings the varsity record to 8-8 for the year. The JV & Freshman teams both won their matches in two games. JV holds a record of 5-3 and the freshman record jumped to 5-4. Giddings will travel to Brookshire to play Royal High on Friday and then host Smithville on Tuesday to begin district play. 9/15/08 The Lady Buffs varsity volleyball squad put together a strong showing against Bastrop, nearly pulling off a win in the second game but ultimately lost all three 13-25, 23-25, 13-25. Last Thursday the Varsity traveled to Madisonville for an abbreviated (IKE) Madisonville Tournament. The Varsity played Cameron first defeating them in the second game but ultimately lost the match 12-25, 25-20, 13-25. In their second match of the tournament they defeated Teague 25-16, 20-25, 25-23. The Wharton matches scheduled for Friday were cancelled due to IKE's approach and, UIL rules limiting Varsity 3 out of 5 matches during the school week. The Varsity is now 8-7. The JV is 4-3. The Freshmen are 4-4. This week Giddings will host Thorndale on Tuesday, Sept. 16th then the JV and Varsity will play Royal in Brookshire on Friday Sept 19th. 9/6/08 The Lexington Eagles slid past Mart Friday night bringing home a 20-19 win. The Eagles (1-1) were forced to re-group after losing to Smithville 34-7 last weekend, a loss that shocked football fans through out Central Texas. By the third quarter Lexington had amassed a 20-10
lead. Mart Mart held Lexington, got the ball back and pressed their way back toward the goal line, scoring with 2:02 left on the clock. The Eagles managed to block Mart's point-after-attempt to seal the one point win. The Eagles will host Cameron (1-1) next Friday at Eagle Stadium. 9/6/08 The Lady hosted Burton Friday night handling the Panthers in three games. Game 1: 25-15, Game 2: 25-16, Game 3: 25-15 The Lady Buffs Varsity and JV will host Bastrop on Tuesday at 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. Freshman (B & A) will travel to Bastrop, action begins at 4:30 p.m. The Lexington football team lost Friday night to Smithville by score of 34-7. Smithville managed to knock off the Eagle on their home field - not a simple task for a program (like Smithville's) that has struggled for years. We'll be watching this Friday night as Smithville takes on Wharton, it will be their second road trip in as many weeks. As for Lexington, they'll try to regroup and travel to Mart to take on the 1A Panthers. The Eagles are expected to do well in their district but they will have to produce more on offense if they are to contend for a playoff berth. Lady Eagles Outlast Lady Buffs 8/31/08 The Lady Eagles outlasted the Lady Buffs Friday evening handing them the match loss after five games. "Our Varsity took Lexington to 5 hard fought games but were defeated", said Head Coach Joe Rebovich. Giddings won game one 25-12 but fell in game two 15-25. The Lady Buffs rallied to win game three 26-24 but lost game four 16-25. In game five the Lexington squad rapped up the match with an 11-15 final score. Rebovich added, "Our Varsity skill level is higher than ever but our endurance and focus needs work."

Blanco pulled in the most votes and was listed as the number No. 1 Central Texas - 2A team. Salado landed in the No. 2 position in the Statesman's staff voting. Division 1 prospect Michael Brown was honored in the paper's spotlight section "Faces Off The Field" which was also posted in today's addition. Austin American Statesman Brown will start on the offensive line for Lexington and is expected to be a leader for the team. The paper reported that Brown has received nine college offers but has not decided which school he will attend. Lady Buffs Bring Home 2nd Place Finish In Fairfield Tournament 8/15/08 The Lady Buffs Volleyball team came home from the Fairfield Tournament Friday afternoon with a second place finish after forcing a fourth game in the championship match against the Fairfield Varsity. The girls finished pool play on Thursday, with a 3-0 tournament record, and met Dawson on Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. The team beat Dawson in two games 25-18 and 25-20. They then played Fairfield JV winning the first two games, 25-15 and 25-15, to claim the match. Giddings headed to the championship match but fell to the Fairfield Varsity after playing four games. Fairfield won the first two games 15-25 and 19-25. The Lady Buffs came back and won game three 28-26 to force game four. The Fairfield squad proved to be just a little too much for Giddings, they lost game four 22-25. The Lady Buffs brought home the 2nd place trophy after competing against seven other teams. Giddings will host Hyde Park (Austin) on Tuesday, August 19th. Freshman will play at 5:00 p.m., JV will play at 6:00 p.m. and Varsity will take the court at 7:00 p.m. Lady Buffs Win Two Pool Games Thursday 8/14/08 The Lady Buffs volleyball team won two matches Thursday during pool play in the Fairfield Tournament. Giddings beat 3A Westwood in the first match at 8:00 a.m., winning game one 25-22 and game two 28-26. They met 2A Malakoff next and lost the first game of the match 17-25. Giddings re-grouped and came back to win the next two games; 25--20 and 25-14, to take the match. Giddings was ready to begin their third match to finish off pool play but the other team was a no-show and Giddings advanced by virtue of a forfeit. The Lady Buffs will begin tournament play at 9:00 a.m. on Friday and will play either Fairfield Varsity, Fairfield JV, Bryan Rudder or Dawson in their first match. Pool play on the other side of the bracket had not concluded at the time Giddings left the facility so they were not sure who they were set to play. Lady Buffs Pack Gym Monday For Volleyball 2-A-Days
Head coach Joe Rebovich had the girls involved in drills and conditioning exercise from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. then they took a lunch break. The girls returned to the gym from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. to continue preparations for the upcoming season. Coach Rebovich was happy to have so many players turn out for the 2008 volleyball teams and said he expects to have two Freshman teams this year. Practice will continue through Thursday and then the girls will head to Lexington on Friday morning for their first scrimmage. They will play the Lady Eagles beginning at 9:00 a.m. Jordan Masek Makes Verbal Commitment To Texas State

Lady Buffs Ready To Begin Volleyball Conditioning 7/23/08 As the Lady Buffs look toward the 2008 volleyball season they are set to begin conditioning with "open gym" starting this coming Tuesday, July 22nd. "Open gym" is strictly voluntary and gives the athletes a chance to use the school facility to begin their personal conditioning and work on their skills. The gym will also be open on July 24th, July 29th and July 31st from 6-8 p.m. at the Giddings High School. These evenings are for volleyball only and for players that will be in grades 9-12 this fall. Lexington's Dowdy Named Statesman's Top Athlete For 2007-2008: Farwell Also Listed

Giddings was never able to mount a significant comeback only scoring one touchdown against the Cardinals energetic passing attack. Rush Plumlee did most of the quarterback work for Giddings, working well with several receivers in all four games. Look for Marcellas Mack, Xavier Daniels and Cory Brite to give Giddings an adequate receiving threat in the coming season. Other receiving prospects are Trey Masek, Deladrick Britton and Dominique Jordan. The tournament ended early for Giddings but overall the squad did reasonably well with their passing game. They came home knowing what they need to work on and are looking forward to getting ready for the 2008 season. Both teams went into the 2008 play-offs, Giddings lost to Taylor in the semi-finals and Lexington lost to Salado in the regional finals. Brister, Janda Named All-Centex 6/21/08 Lexington second baseman B.J. Brister and third baseman Reagan Janda were named to the All-Centex baseball team this past week. Brister hit .494 with 15 homeruns and was active on the bases, scoring 50 runs. Janda managed to hit .484 logged, 12 homeruns and had 55 RBIs this year. Both are seniors who helped the Eagles to a playoff run that sent them to the semi-fianl round. Lexington was knocked Salado out before they could reach the state tournament. Texas Football Magazine Ranks Giddings 13th In State 6/17/08 Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine has ranked the Liberty Hill Panthers as the state's No. 1 3A team to begin the 2008 pre-season. The 2008 issue of the magazine hit the newsstands on Monday (you probably won't find it in Giddings until Friday).
The Rattlers are expected to win their district and contend for a state title behind the powerful running of workhorse Dexter Pratt (6'2", 225lbs). (Photo: Giddings defenders Dock and Gonzalez bring down Navasota's Pratt) The magazine ranked Giddings 13th in the state and 2nd in District 25-3A. Giddings head football coach Derek Fitzhenry said that "the fact that the Buffaloes are ranked in the Top 25 Poll is a testament to how much respect that have with the 3A coaches in Texas". "The coach's opinions about a team have a lot to do with how well the team gets ranks".
As far as Sealy winning district, coach Fitzhenry stated, "well, we'll see about that". Sealy has 7 returning starters on offense and 8 on defense. (Giddings LB Plumlee takes down Sealy's Downey) The Buffaloes ran all over Sealy in the 07 pre-season scrimmage and then claimed a resounding 21-12 victory over the Tigers in the playoffs, despite losing QB Brock Fitzhenry during the game. Fitzhenry went down during the second quarter with an ankle injury. Sealy's offence will, no doubt, rely heavily on junior Dexter Downey who was the District 24-3A 2007 Newcomer of the year. Giddings finished "pool play" on Saturday morning with two wins and one loss, locked in a three way tie with Gonzales and Yoakum. Giddings was allowed to advance to the tournament by virtue of their "total points scored" during the three "pool" games. Giddings was able to clinch the tournament title due, in part, to the outstanding play of returning varsity players Quinn Taylor and Marcellus Mack and JV standout Dominique Jordan. This years squad is coached by former Giddings running back Brandon Johnson who graduated from Giddings in 2007 and currently plays football for Tarleton State University in Stephenville. Brandon has dedicated some of his time off (this summer) to helping Giddings 7 on 7 players succeed. Giddings has competed in 7 on 7 tournaments in the past (usually playing in 4 and 5A tournaments) but has only advanced to the State tournament one other time. The summer 7 on 7 series allows teams to work on their passing game and sharpen their skills in preparation for the coming season. A team is allowed to bring 20 players and is coached by a parent or other community member. High school coaches are able to watch from a designated area but are not allowed to coach the team. The 7 on 7 field is 45 yards long and 160 feet wide. Seven players take the field on offense: a quarterback, a center (who is not an eligible receiver and cannot block for the QB) and five receivers. Once the ball is snapped, the quarterback has four seconds to throw the ball, he cannot run or hand the ball off. Players cannot kick or punt the ball and a player who catches the ball is down when touched (with both hands) by his opponent. Teams score six points for a touchdown and one extra point - if attempted from the three yard line or two extra points - if attempted from the 10 yard line.

Another shot gets past Ethan Kmoch at second and the runner scores from third. Taylor cranks a grounder to third, Plumlee digs it out of the dirt then make a bad throw to first. Another Taylor runner scores on the error. Coach Marlow pulled Plumlee out of the game for throwing his glove down. Taylor's last batter grounds out to second.

- OK, we have a connection. Top of the 5th: Taylor 7, Giddings 5 Both starting pitchers struggled. Zach Berry started off on the mound for Giddings but Ethan Kmoch came in to relieve him in the in the 4th.
Well placed hits have kept the Buffaloes in this one. Pitching problems and a couple of errors have made it difficult. As reported earlier in the week, Taylor has some of the most foul mouthed fans I've seen in a while.

Taylor takes the first game of the series: Giddings 0, Taylor 3. Game two will take the Buffs back to Bryan tonight as they try to get back in it. Zach Berry should be in line to lead the Buffaloes from the mound. (Photo 3: Giddings runner tagged out at second base.)

The Buffs finished in second place in district, with a record of 6-4, behind Bellville who was knocked out in round two by Jasper. Bellville, the district champ, received a bye then went down to one of the state’s top teams, so much for the benefit of being a district champion.
The Buffs have spent time improving their success at the plate, an effort that
has paid off in recent weeks. The group has also learned to battle out of tough
positions, an attribute that has
likely
come from the maturity gained throughout the season. Expect to see Trey Masek on the mound tonight for Giddings. Trey has risen to a higher level of confidence achieving measured success in recent outings. He, along with number two pitcher Zach Berry and the rest of the defense, will need to be near flawless as the season progresses and the level of competition rises. Giddings must keep its composure and just play baseball. This sport is not one that is accustomed to marching bands, cheerleaders and out of control fans. Baseball is a game of the mind. A true competitor can't allow it to become a "mind game". Keep your head in the game and do what you do. The type of game Taylor brings may not be that of a state champion.
5/17/08 Giddings will meet Taylor in the regional semi-final round of the state playoffs.
Taylor advanced by beating Liberty Hill 10-8 in the third game of their series today. The Ducks lost game one on Thursday 5-3, then won game two over the Panthers on Friday by a score of 11-9.
Taylor entered the playoffs after finishing in third place in District 18-3A. They ended regular season play with a district record of 5-3, and now carry an overall record of 23-8-1. Taylor has one tie game on it's record this year. Giddings tied the Ducks on February 25th, 13-13.
Game dates, time and a venue will be announced on Sunday or Monday.

Lexington Smacks Rogers: Heads To Semi-final Round 5/17/08 Lexington took the second game in their "best of three games" series against the 2007 2-A State Champion. The Eagle beat Rogers Friday night 5-0.
Lexington's number two pitcher, Brian Tieman, dominated from the mound , stifling any possible offensive attack from the Rogers squad. Tieman allowed just three hits, struck on four and gave up three walks.
The series was a rematch of last year's semi-final round where Rogers came out on top, eventually advancing to the state title.
Lexington moves tot he semi-final round to take on either Kaufer or Santa Rosa from District 32 2-A.
Game dates, time and a venue will be announced on Sunday or Monday.

Lexington To Tangle With Rogers 5/13/08 The states No. 2 - 2A team, Lexington, is set to face Rogers in the regional quarter-final round. Rogers, who was the 2007 2A State Champion, knocked off No. 9 Halletsville this past weekend in two games 10-4 and 2-0 to bring home the Area Championship.
Rogers moves to the quarter-final round after finishing second in district 25-2A with a record of 10-4. During district play the Eagles fell to Salado (12-2) failing in their attempt to claim the top district spot. Rogers beat Salado, who is ranked sixth in the Texas High School Baseball coaches poll. The Eagle took down Salado once in district competition but lost other important games that caused their district record to slide.
The team claimed the bi-district title moving past New Waverly in a three game stand: 5-6, 10-0, 11-2. Rogers was not ranked in the last Texas High School Baseball Coaches top ten poll.
Lexington spreads out their offensive attack with several good hitters and two power hitters, Brister and Janda. Lexington ran over their district opponents in 2008, scoring 100 points to their opponents 21 points, in seven games. The team takes the field with nine senior starters who are electric on defense.
The Lexington squad has been touted for its extreme work ethic and its ability to play together.

In bi-district action Hardin Jefferson knocked off Coldspring in two games 14-2 and 11-8. Coldspring had finished in the third place spot in District 22-3A.
Hardin Jefferson made their way to the quarter final round by defeating Sweeny this past weekend. The Bulldogs were the District 24-3A champion. The two met for a "best of three" series where Sweeny prevailed in game one: 2-0, but lost to HJ in game two: 7-2 and game three: 9-2.
Six returning senior starters pack the squad for HJ. Four of these seniors are listed as potential pitchers for the Hawks. Senior Taylor Monse (P/1B) was elected the 2008 District 21-3A Player of the Year while senior Dylan Lundy (SS/P) was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year. Seniors Kevin Roebuck (C) and Josh Rodgers (P/1B) reeled in 1st Team All-District honors while senior Jacob Ricossa (P/2B) and junior Logan Ferguson (P/Util.) claimed the 2nd Team All-District distinction.
Giddings labored in game two, but put on an

Kingwood Surprises Giddings In Game Two 7-0 5/9/08
Buffs Thump Kingwood Park In Series Opener 5/9/08 The Giddings Buffaloes baseball squad took early control of Thursday night's game against the Kingwood Park (K-Park) Panthers and never looked back as they rolled past the Humble area team 8-3.
The Buffs had taken a 1-0 lead by the end of the second inning but had their big rally in the top of the third using a steady barrage of hits and a fine display of base running to bring their lead to 4-0.
A two run homer by the K-Parks pitcher, Salter, would make the score 4-2 at the end of three innings. The home run would prove to be the only offensive spark for Kingwood Park for the night.
K-Park would make its first of two pitching changes by the fifth inning as they struggled from the mound. The group gave up costly hits with Buffs runners, some of which had previously walked, scoring. By the middle of the fifth the score was 6-2, Giddings.
Trey Masek pitched six complete innings for the Buffaloes, controlling a Kingwood Park line-up that battled at the plate and consistently left runners stranded.
Giddings committed two errors in the bottom of the sixth inning that would allow K-Park to score one more run; Giddings 8, Kingwood Park 3.
Ty Marlow pitched an uneventful seventh inning to finish off the Panthers and secure the win for Giddings.
Giddings is set to meet the Panthers again tonight for game two. Kingwood Park was forced to use three pitchers in Thursday's lack luster performance. Struggling like they did, we are wondering how they will make it through tonight's outing.
Kingwood Park did not look like a team who had won their district (District Co-Champ with Tarkington) and that makes you wonder how strong (or actually how weak) are the other teams in District 22-3A.
For K-Park this is their inaugural season. Last year the school was a 9th grade campus. Because of crowding at other area high schools Kingwood Park made the change to a 9th-12th grade high school and is part of the Humble ISD. The school has the enrollment numbers to me considered a 4A (almost 1500) but because of its young population it's baseball team plays in the 3A division.
Game two will be played tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Brenham at Schulte Field.

Giddings rallied to defeat Wharton on Friday night outlasting their opponent in the 8th inning 8-6.
Giddings returned for game two on Saturday and took command of the contest, smoking the Tigers 8-3.
Next Opponent For Lexington Is Weimar 5/4/08 The next opponent for the Lexington Eagles baseball team will be Weimar.
Weimar was able to handle Wallis Brazos so they will advance to round two of the state playoffs. The Wildcats smacked Wallis Brazos in both games 19-6 and 14-3.
Weimar finished in third place in District 28-2A behind Halletsville, who placed first, and Edna, who took second.
In the latest poll, put forth by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association (THSBCA), Lexington jumped from No. 4 to No. 2. In recent weeks Lexington has steadily moved up in the polls while Halletsville has held at No. 9 and 10 for the past few weeks.
Lexington will begin post season play this coming weekend after finishing in the number one spot in District 26-2A. The Eagles received a first round "bye" because of their top status in the district.
If Lexington is able to get past Weimar, and Halletsville beats Rogers this week, the two will meet in the regional quarterfinals which are set to begin on May 15th. Neither Weimar nor Rogers are ranked by the THSBCA, this poll only list the top ten. Rogers is currently listed at No. 19 by the texas2abaseball.com poll which was posted on April 30th.

Giddings will attempt to claim the Area championship next weekend when they take on Kingwood Park who finished first in District 22-3A with a district record of 11-1. As the front runner in District 22-3A Kingwood got a "bye" and advanced to round two without having to compete this weekend.
Game dates and times will be announced on Monday.

Lexington Tops District 26-2A: Awaits Playoff Matchup 4/30/08 Updated 4/29/08 The Lexington Eagles baseball team is currently in the No. 4 spot in the state baseball rankings according to the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Poll which was released on April 25th.
The Eagles boast a season record of 22-3-1.
Playing as strongly as ever, Lexington was able to win their district; Trinity took second and New Waverly placed third.
The Eagles have received a first round "bye" and will play the winner of the District 27 2-A match-up between Weimar and Wallis Brazos that is set for later this week. Lexington will not begin post season play until May 9.
The Lexington squad includes nine senior starters most of whom played together for years in Little League. Many of their Little League seasons were spent as a group since the town of Lexington was only able to amass enough players for one team. The players work hard and always together, coming to know exactly what to expect from each other.
The group has become known for it's strong hitting ability and a lineup that has few holes in it. While opposing pitchers are busy trying to pitch around Lexington's top hitters they are faced with a quality list of players who fill the number 6-9 spots for the Eagles. Most of these players would bat earlier in any of the Eagles opponent's lineups.
The Eagles are led by their two power hitters B.J. Brister and Reagan Janda, who have tallied nearly 30 homeruns this season. The team is stacked with big hitters who have combined for nearly 50 homeruns this year.
Exceptional fielding, with lots of experience in the infield, and depth on the mound have moved the Lexington squad into a position where they could actually contend for a state 2-A title.
The Eagles will take a breather while they await the outcome of the bi-district battle this weekend. The groups extreme work ethic will no doubt have them preparing for what they hope will be a lengthy post season run.
4/28/08 The Giddings baseball team will play Wharton in the first match-up of their 2008 playoff appearance.
The Buffs will travel to Sealy on Friday night to take on the Wharton Tigers in the "best-of-three-games" series. Fridays game begins at 8 p.m. Game two is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Wharton finished in third place in district 24-3A, with a record of 9-3, behind Sweeny (13-1) who claimed first and Needville (10-4) who placed second.
The Buffs achieved their second place seeding after crushing Caldwell on Friday night, winning with a sixth inning run rule 13-0.
Giddings Girls Advance: Sweeny Out 4/26/08 Giddings met Sweeny Saturday in Weimar for the second game of their bi-district tournament up ending the Lady Bulldogs by a final score of 7-5.
Sweeny got an early jump on the girls who were forced to battle back eventually pulling out the win.
The victory permits the Lady Buffs to advance to round two which will be Friday at Magnolia High School at 7:00 p.m. Giddings will take a shot at the Lady Cats of Splendora. Game two will take place on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. Game three, of necessary, will begin immediately after game two is over.

Buffs Crush Caldwell: Win Earns Them 2nd 4/26/08 The Buffaloes baseball team claimed a huge win over Caldwell Friday night, seizing the districts 2nd place spot.
In this year's four outings with the Hornets, Giddings has come away with the advantage three times.
Both teams got off to a slow start remaining scoreless until the fourth inning. The Buffaloes were able to put two points on the board, Caldwell remained silent.
Giddings opened up the sixth inning scoring 11 runs, Caldwell was still unable to answer. After six complete innings the came was called due to a sixth inning run rule and the Buffs won 13-0.
This big win allowed Giddings to finish second in district and forces Caldwell to play Needville in the bi-district round which begins next week. Needville finished with a record of 10-4 in District 24-3A. Giddings will advance to the first round meeting Wharton who finished at 9-5 in district competition.
4/25/08 The Lady Buffs slid past Sweeny Friday night capturing a big win to start their 2008 playoff run.
Giddings got off to a 2-0 lead in the first inning pounding the Sweeny defense with an outstanding hitting effort.
Giddings Pitcher Whitney brought poise and confidence to the mound in a game that can be considered one of her best outings this year.
Giddings struggled in the fifth with a couple of fielding errors that allowed the Lady Bulldogs to get back in the game. The group was able to regain their composure in the sixth inning finishing this one out with a final tally of 4-2.
Giddings, Caldwell Showdown Friday 4/24/08 The Giddings Buffaloes baseball team will play Caldwell Friday night in a district playoff showdown that will determine who places second and third in the district.
This match-up will mark the third time the two have met this year. Giddings beat Caldwell at the pre-season Rockdale Tournament in February by a score of 10-4.
During district play the teams met for two contests each pulling off a win. Giddings won the first game 9-7 then Caldwell took the second game 8-7. Since they split the two game district schedule they will play a district playoff game so the seeding for the post season tournament can be determined.
Both teams ended district competition with a 6-4 record. Bellville claimed the first place spot in district 23-3A with a record of 8-2 and will get a "bye" for the first round of the playoffs.
Friday nights contest is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at A&M Consolidated in College Station.
Lady Buffs Set To Battle Sweeny 4/23/08 The Lady Buffs softball team is set to meet Sweeny as post season play begins. The first game is scheduled for Friday night in Weimar. The teams will take the field at 6:30 p.m.
Giddings earned their spot in the playoffs last week when they finished their regular season in second place with a district record of 8-2. Both of the Lady Buff's losses came at the hands of LaGrange who finished first in district and received a first round "bye".
Sweeny enters the "best of three" series after placing third in District 24-3A.
Game two will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. If necessary, a third game will follow to determine who will advance to the next round.

On Friday the boys lost to Cameron 10-8 posting eight errors while they struggled on defense. Later the squad turned things around beating Caldwell 10-4 and Llano 5-4.
Saturday, Giddings hammered Navasota 14-4, handed Cameron a 9-5 loss in a revenge match, but then lost to (Waco) Robinson 14-4. Robinson went on to take first place in the tournament. The boys bats were on fire but their defense labored in the field. The Buffaloes played six games which depleted their pitching options. Rush Plumlee, Ethan Kmoch, Ty Marlow, Trey Masek, Steven Francis, Philip Fritsche, Brooks Marlow and Lance Krause all pitched. Overall the Buffs had a very good outing considering three of the pitchers had seen little time on the high school mound. The Buffs put Caldwell and Navasota on the bus early, a big accomplishment since Giddings has received little respect within the district. Alan Dock, who slammed two home runs and made key plays in centerfield, was an "All Tournament" selection.

Last year the Lady Buffs softball team began play-offs as District Champions, fighting their way to become Regional Finalist and finishing the season just one round short of the State Tournament. Currently ranked at No. 7 in the state the girls are, of course, looking to go further and bring home the state championship trophy. Years of effort has gone into the making of each individual player on this team. Many of the Lady Buffs have played competitively together for nearly a decade; playing around the state on the "select" ball team known as The Central Texas Silver Bullets. Seven of the Lady Buffs are still known as “The World Series Team” from their 2004 appearance at the Little League World Series in Washington State. They have put in countless hours of practice for countless softball tournaments requiring extreme dedication from all of the players and parents, enduring brutal weather conditions and countless hours on the road. Giddings Athletic Director
Derek Fitzhenry said the following about Weise after taking part in her
signing day activities;
“I
really appreciate competitors. Whitney is a great competitor.
I’ve seen her struggle for a couple of innings and then come back
like a true champion to finish a game. I preach that to our kids all the
time “finish.” Whitney can
finish and that’s what makes her special. “ Note:
