Giddings Girls win GHS JV Basketball Tournament

The JV Lady Buffs won the Championship trophy at the Giddings JV Basketball tournament defeating the Manor Mustangs 54-47 in the Championship game.

Manor led 29-21 at half-time, however, a tremendous defensive effort in the third quarter allowed the Lady Buffs to convert steals into easy points and outscore Manor 17-8 and 16-10 in the final two quarters. Leading the Giddings scoring effort was MaNeesah Reese with11 points, followed by Tanya Moreno 10, Kalyn Morgan and Kathryn Mason with 9 points each, Mckayla Alva 6, Vickie Schimank 5, and Sarah Owens 4 points .

In the opening round of the tournament, Giddings blasted Taylor 63-5. Mckayla Alva topped the scoring with 16 points, Tavia Richards 15, Kathryn Mason 10, MaNeesah Reese 8, Tanya Moreno 6, Sara Owens and Kalyn Morgan each added 4 points.

Giddings played Rockdale in the second round for an easy 64-26 victory. The Lady Buffs outscored Rockdale 24-12 in the first quarter. Kathryn Mason led the scoring with 20 points while Mckayla Alva had 14, Sarah Owens and Tavia Richards both had 8, Vickie Schimank 7, Tanya Moreno 4, and Kalyn Morgan adding 3 points.

In a game played earlier in the week, Giddings JV pulled out a close one over Hallettsville 40-38. Giddings trailed by 7 points at the end of three quarters, then the  Lady Buffs outscored Hallettsville 17 to 8 in the forth quarter to get the victory. MaNeesah Reese hit16 points to lead all scorers, followed by Mckayla Alva 9, Sarah Owens 6, Tanya Moreno and Kathryn Mason 4 points each and Kalyn Morgan adding 1 point.

The JV Lady Buff’s season record is 12-0.
