U10 Angels Tie Lockhart Torpedos 1-1
The U10 Angels faced the tough Lockhart Torpedos on Saturday and
ended the game with a tie, 1-1. The Torpedos had not been scored on
all season. Courtney Strain scored the only goal for the Angels.
All the girls played hard and never gave up slowing the high
offensive power that the Torpedos had. Heather Gallier played an
outstanding game as goalkeeper making many good stops.
U13 Strikers Defeat AU Cyclones 2-1
The U13 Strikers defeat AU Cyclones on Sunday in Austin by a score of 2-1. After being down 1-0 at the end of the first half, the U13 Strikers came back the second half and scored two goals. Scoring for the Strikers was David Bautista on a pass from Daniel Triana. Later, Daniel Triana scored on a pass from David Bautista. Jerry Rivera and MaCain Proske had a great defensive game. Alec and Giovanni Tovar injected a lot of energy in the second half that inspired the Strikers come-back victory. U14 Elite Lose to Shooting Stars 2-1 The U14 LC Elite lost to the Slaughter Creek Shooting Stars on Saturday in Austin Stars by a score of 2-1. Scoring for the Elite was Alexiah Recendez. Abby Perez played excellent defense and Courtney Richards had a very aggresive game at the middle position.
U14 Strikers Defeat Austin United Screaming Eagles 4-0
The U14 Strikers traveled to South Austin on Saturday and defeated
Austin United with a score of 4-0. Scoring first was Adam Dock
followed by Michael Rangel with two goals and Alan Orocio.
Christian Hess made some nice runs and gave a great effort during
the game. Joan Tello made some good defensive stops. Great
outstanding effort was made by Carlos Salazar.
U14 Stikers Defeat Cedar Park Vortex 4-1
The U14 Strikers
traveled to Cedar Park on Sunday and defeated CCU with a score of
4-1. Scoring for the Strikers was Marcos Jimenez and Carlos
Salazar, each with two goals. Great defensive effort was given by
Sotero Lara and Fernando Orocio.
Giddings Optimist names Little Dribbler MVP's
Hattie Harmon was picked as the Most Valuable Girl and Michael Rocha was chosen as the Most Valuable Boy. League directors, referees and coaches made the decision; judging the players on skill, athletic ability, sportsmanship and game attitude.
Hattie was a member of the 3rd - 6th grade girls team; Warriors. Michael played on the 5th & 6th grade boys team; Lakers. Both of the players are 6th grade students at Giddings Intermediate School.
Nearly 200 children participated in the program this year, youngsters in grades K-6 were allowed to sign-up for the series. Practices began on January 5th and games were underway by January 17th.
The kids played a schedule of games during the regular season, then finished with a post-season tournament involving each of the four divisions.
The season ended with a final championship contest between the girls 3rd - 6th Suns and the Celtics. The Celtics won the match-up by a score of 12-6. The game came down to the 4th quarter as the Celtics slowly pulled ahead. Brande Moore hit 10 of the Celtics' 12 points - giving the Celtics the late game advantage and the eventual win.
